![]() |
The 82d Airborne
Division Association was organized in England prior to the Normandy Invasion in
1944 and is the largest Airborne organization in the world. The Association was
chartered by the U.S. Congress and membership is open to anyone who has served
in the 82d Airborne Division; is currently serving on active duty on jump
status; has ever served in an Airborne unit in any of the uniformed services on
either jump or glider status and was honorably discharged.
The Association has members who have served with the 11th, 13th, 17th, 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions; 187th, 503rd, 508th, 509th and 517th Regiments; 173rd Airborne Brigade (Separate), as well as troopers from Special Forces, Airborne Rangers, Marine Corps Recon, Navy SEALS, and Air Force Special Tactics personnel. The Vulcan Chapter has members from many of those same units.
The Vulcan Chapter received its charter from the 82d Airborne Division Association in 1984. The members of the Vulcan Chapter are from all over of Alabama, southern and middle Tennessee, northwest Georgia and the western portion of the Florida Panhandle. Member's military service times range from WWII to the present, and include troopers who served just one enlistment to military retirees, both officers and enlisted.
Our purpose is to promote the Airborne spirit and to recognize the service of those who have gone before us creating this great military organization. One of the ways we seek to continue to promote this espirit-de-corps is by recognizing outstanding Airborne ROTC Cadets at specific universities in the State of Alabama.
Social functions and/or business meetings are held monthly with options for participation at Conventions held all across the US. Members are encouraged to visit Fort Bragg during All American Week activities where opportunities to visit with current troopers are always a highlight. Other events include a picnic/social during the summer, celebration of National Airborne Day in August, participation in the Huntsville Veterans’ Day Parade and a Christmas party in December. .
